Dar Parson's Autobiography When I was a kid, I began my art existence trying to draw Garfield. Then advanced up to comic books, comic strips and drawing cartoons from the TV My mother saw this talent and started me in classes in painting landscapes. I did this for awhile and became bored with it and began to paint creatures from my imagination. At this point I’m always drawing or painting. It’s like breathing to me. I get frustrated when life gets in the way. That’s why I have my beautiful wife Heather. She grounds me to this planet and also keeps me focused on my artistic endeavors. I did a two year stint with Full Sail Real World Education thirteen years ago. I was in the film program and I focused on set design. I realized film wasn’t something that I truly loved and came back to Indianapolis. Got married and a practical job and at night still drawing and painting after work. In my early years taking art classes in school I failed all of them only because I didn’t want to draw what they wanted. As I’ve gotten older I realized to become a working artist you need to do what’s asked of you sometimes. I’ve done three wall murals in my life. The Jazz Masters which stands thirty feet high on the outside of Lazy Daze Coffee Shop. My second Mural is in Lazy Daze Coffee Shop. Jeff the owner and I created the idea for his second room. The third mural I’ve just finished is at Legend Restaurant which also resides in the Irvington Community. I’ve learned a lot doing these murals and had a lot of fun. I’m slowly working on becoming an illustrator of Children’s Books, Magazine covers and any other publications that strike my fancy. I did one comic strip for Indy.com with my Tiny Ink Stories. Small little snips of art made of ink that holds small stories. I present to you some of my Tiny Ink Stories and some of my Children’s Book Illustrations. Also I would like to present to you an original piece called the Great Fa. A cosmic wonder of space that my four year old daughter Emawen named for me. Most of my stuff that you see here today is first prints of the originals. I do have to say I love using colored pencils and Ink. Acrylic and oil paints are my secondary mediums depending on my mood. Although chalk is fun. I hope you enjoy the small sample of the work I have presented. I support Irvington artists and companies. I live here and I love it here in this dark but bright rooted community. If you would like to give me any comments contact me via email or will chat with me over a warm cup of coffee (d.a.parsons@sbcglobal.net). DAR |
