Beatriz Schlebecker Schlebecker is a long time resident and local artist in Irvington. She finds her inspirations in her Mexican American background and her life long experiences. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in 2006 at Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis. While focusing on the field of Children’s Book Illustrations, she encountered the beauty of collage. Through her collage work the beauty of Papel Picado began to blossom and take form. |
*Papel picado literally means 'punched' or 'perforated' paper. This traditional cut paper folk art is found throughout Mexico and the former colonies of Spain as well as in the folk traditions of many other countries. Papel Picado has also allowed Beatriz to get back to her Mexican heritage as an artist. She continues to express and transform her whimsical illustrations into cut-out beauties. * Hunter, Dard Papermaking, the History and Technology of an Ancient Craft.
